تُعتبر مدينة الإسكندريّة ثانِ أكبر مدينة في مصر، بالإضافة إلى كونها أكبر موانئها، ونافذة البلاد على البحر الأبيض المتوسّط. على الرغم من أن الإسكندرية لا تقارن بوضعها السابق الألمع نجماً، إلا أنها ما زالت تستحق الزيارة لوجود العديد من المعالم الحضارية واللمحات المحسوسة الدالة على عراقة ماضيها. من أهم المواقع التي يجب زيارتها في الإسكندرية قلعة قايتباي التي تعد إحدى رموز المدينة في رأس التين، وحصنها المطل على البحر الأبيض المتوسط والمدينة معاً؛ بُنيت هذه القلعة عام 1480 للميلاد، وقد قام ببنائها السلطان قايتباي إلى جانب فنار الإسكندرية لحماية المدينة من هجمات الصليبيين الذين اعتادوا القيام بها عبر البحر، ومقبرة مصطفى كامل التي تضم أربعة أضرحة تعود بتاريخها إلى القرن الثاني قبل الميلاد، والتي مازالت تتمتع بحالة ممتازة محافظةً على زخارفها حتى الآن، بالإضافة إلى عمود السواري القديم البالغ طوله 25 متراً، والمصنوع بأكمله من حجر الغرانيت؛ تم بناء هذا العمود تكريماً للامبراطور ديوكلتيانوس عام 297 للميلاد، ويوجد في ذات المنطقة التي بني فيها بقايا أثرية ومنحوتات أخرى كمنحوتة العرّافة سيرابيوم. كما عليكم بزيارة المسرح الروماني في كوم الدكّا، الذي تم بنائه في القرن الثاني للميلاد في منطقة كانت في عهد بطليموس حديقةً مليئة بما يسرّ الناظرين، كما تُحاط بالمباني والحمامات الرومانية. أما قصر المنتزه الذي بني عام 1892 للميلاد على يد عباس الثاني عباس حلمي باشا، والذي هو آخر خديوي في مصر. فيوجد في ما يدعى بـ "الحرملك" والذي هو أحد مباني القصر حالياً كازينو في الطابق الأرضي، ومتحف للآثار الملكيّة في الطابق العلوي. من المعالم الأخرى التي تستحق الزيارة ضريح الجندي المجهول في منطقة المنشيّة، والقصر الرئاسي في المنتزه، ومتحف الإسكندريّة الوطني؛ متحف تاريخي يحتوي على أكثر من ألف وثمانمئة قطعة أثريّة، والمتحف اليوناني الروماني؛ متحف تاريخي يعرض تشكيلة واسعة من الآثار التي يعود تاريخها إلى القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد من الفترات الرومانيّة والبطلميّة، ومقابر كوم الشقافة؛ أحد أروع نماذج العمارة الجنائزيّة.

بإطلالتها على البحر الأدرياتيكي، المعروف أيضاً باسم بحر البنادقة، تُعتبر سبليت من المدن الرائعة التي تكاد تكون تحفة فنية لشدة جمالها. كانت هذه المدينة في الأصل قصراً ضخماً مطلاً على الواجهة البحرية، وقد بناه الامبراطور الروماني ديوكلتيانوس ليقيم فيه بعد تقاعده. لا يزال حائط المدينة الرومانية القديمة ذو الشكل المستطيل موجوداً حتى يومنا هذا، بينما تحولت قاعات القصر إلى شوارع، وغرفه إلى منازل. تُعتبر سبليت ثاني أكبر المدن في كرواتيا، بالإضافة إلى كونها المحور الاقتصادي للسواحل الأدرياتيكية الشرقية، وقد نجحت بجمعها بين العادات والتقاليد من جهة، والحداثة والعصريّة من جهة أخرى. لازال قصر الامبراطور ديوكلتيانوس يشكّل مركز المدينة، حيث يشكّل القسم العلوي منه فوضى أثريّة، وتعطينا الجدران الأربعة والبوابات الرئيسية لهذا القصر المستطيل فكرة بسيطة عن ماضيه. في الجزء الجنوبي، ستقودك البوابة البرونزية الواقعة قرب المياه عبر سراديب وأقبية ساحرة تحت المنازل الإمبراطورية باتجاه الفناء، والذي هو البهو المعمّد، حيث ستجد في داخله تمثالاً لأبو الهول الذي لا زال يرعى ضريح الامبراطور ديوكلتيانوس، ومنذ تحوّلت إلى ما يعرف بكاتدرائية سيفتي دوج، غطيت جدران الكنيسة الداخلية بمنحوتات حجرية دقيقة التفاصيل، بالإضافة إلى نقوش خشبية بديعة. أما بالنسة للقرية الصغير، فعلى الرغم من مساحتها الصغيرة، إلا أنها استحقت حماية منظمة اليونسكو، لذا من النادر أن تجد فيها مظاهراً تدل على العصريّة. تعتبر ساحة نارودني تراغ (ساحة الناس) من أكبر الساحات في المركز القديم للمدينة، والتي تقع بجانب البوابات الغربية لقصر الامبراطور ديوكليتانوس. تشكّل هذه الساحة روح المركز القديم، ونقطة الالتقاء المعتادة لسكان مدينة سبليت، حيث يعدّ شرب الاسبريسو مع الأصدقاء جزءاً من الروتين اليومي لسكان سبليت المحليين. تسيطر على كامل هذه الساحة قاعة المدينة الأولى ، وهي عبارة عن قصر يعود تاريخه إلى القرن الخامس عشر، وتحتوي على زخرفات جميلة ذات طراز قوطي، ويقع قصر النهضة بجانبه تماماً، الذي يعود للأسرة الأرستقراطية الغابرة (كارتبك)، مع وجود شعار النبالة المميز على واجهته. كما تشكل شوارع المدينة الضيّقة مكاناً مثالياً لتتوه فيه، متميّزةً بهوائها الرطب والبارد الذي يكون منعشاً جداً في أيام الصيف الحارّة. من الأجزاء الجميلة أيضاً في المدينة هي ريفا، والتي هي واجهة سبليت البحرية، حيث تصطف المقاهي والمطاعم، وتعتبر المكان المثالي لاحتساء كوب من القهوة أو تأمّل جمال البحر الأدرياتيكي والقوارب التي تبحر فيه. صاخبة ومليئة بالفرح والإثارة؛ هي الصفات التي تجعل سبليت وجهة تستحق الزيارة.
